Freedom 251 smartphone priced at just Rs. 251, took the whole world by surprise. The controversial mobile phone Freedom 251 is introduced by a Noida based Start-up Company Ringing Bells. The president of Ringing Bells, Ashok Chadha has stated that their main aim is to bridge the huge gap which exists between the metro and semi urban areas by bringing this high-tech gadget.
On the first day of sale, the company has received 30,000 pre-order bookings but the managing director Mohit Goel has recently confirmed that all the customers have been refunded the pre-ordered money and now cash will only be accepted on delivery to maintain transparency and keep a check on misgivings.
Many believed that the world’s cheapest mobile phone is part of government project and Ringing Bells got immense support from government but a top government official has confirmed that neither the ‘Make in India’ nor the ‘Digital India’ has anything to do with it.
The company was set to deliver around 2.5 Million handsets before 30 June 2016 but it has received 7 Crores registrations, so the customers will be served on first cum first serve basis.
The start-up company is also facing a defamation suit and a FIR as lots of questions are circulating over the world’s cheapest Smartphone. This FIR was set by the Noida based data centre and BPO Cyfuture.
According to the founder and CEO of BPO Cyfuture Anuj Bairathi, they have taken such a harsh decision (filing a defamation suit) as Ringing Bells has allegedly accused them for non-performance which has completely ruined their image.
He also stated that they have been assured of suitable course of action by Vishwajeet Srivastava, the superintendent of police, crime branch.
Mohit Goel has also reiterated that money of all 30,000 customers is safe and is being refunded. According to Chadha, Freedom 251 customers will be required to make payment only when the smartphone is delivered to them.
Consumers are still waiting for solid answers and commitment from Ringing Bells. Meanwhile, the government has distanced itself from the Freedom 251.
So, let’s wait and see what is going to happen next.
