Indian Discovers Faster Tin Monoxide Conductor to Replace Silicon
Faster Electronics: A team of engineers led by Indian-origin scientist Ashutosh Tiwari, has discovered a new kind of 2D semi-conducting material made of Tin and Oxygen (Tin monoxide or SnO). The new semi-conductor allows electrical charges to move through it much faster than conventional 3D materials such as Silicon. Transistors made with Tiwari’s semi-conducor could be used to build computers and smartphones that are over 100 times faster than today’s devices.
Ashutosh Tiwari ia an assistant professor and director of the Nanostructured Materials Research Laboratory at the University of Utah, United States.
