Deadly Flood in Chennai
Deadly rain in Chennai caused by the depression at the Bay of Bengal brought Chennai standstill in the early of December that took many lives while left others stranded with no shelter, food and power. All the trains, flight and other communications were suspended due to this serious flooding. India has deployed several troops in Tamil Nadu to help out the victims. Even the rescuers had to battle to rescue the victims from the flooded area. More than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed to help out the rescue effort. The death toll has reached 200 in just four weeks.
Delhi faced Lock-down during Obama Visit
US President Barack Obama was invited as the chief guest in India on the republic day, 26th January, 2015. Hindustan Times reported that the capital witnessed a sort of lockdown during the run up to 26th January when most of the offices, arterial roads and metro station were instructed to close for special security reasons. The US president and Indian leaders were protected by a seven layer security ring while the airspace too was being monitored by radar, reported by ‘The times of India’. Indian Express also quoted that high end surveillance system was installed in all the major ports. Along with that 1200 troops were deployed along the India-Pakistan border to avert any kind of unpleasant incident.
National Herald Case
Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the accused of National Herald Case have been instructed by the court to appear before it on 19 December at 3.00 PM. This incident created a huge storm in the party while the parliament faced disruption. Also the supporters of congress showed their protest against it by taking it to the street. Subramanian Swamy, one of the famous BJP leaders who had filed the case in 2012 by accusing both the Gandhis and other four persons of illegally acquiring AJL is saying that the congress leaders are out of luck now and they should face the reality. They have captured asset of YIL worth Rs. 2000 crore and now the due process of law will be started.
BBC Film Flickers a Debate on Media Ethics
The Delhi Gang Rape case witnessed a nationwide debate when an UK broadcast of the interview of film maker Leslee Udwin with one of the Indian Daughter’s gang rape convict was planned on 8th March, International Women Day. But the whole Indian Media very strongly reacted to that and finally the broadcast of the interview was prevented in India by Delhi Court while this prevention also angered many in India.
Anil Kumble and Betty Wilson in ICC Cricket Hall of Fame
The third highest wicket taker in Test cricket Anil Kumble and one of the best women’s crickter Betty Wilson was introduced in the ICC cricket Hall of Fame on 22nd February at MCG during one of the ICC cricket world cup 2015 match that was between India and South Africa. Both the great cricketers were respected by presenting commemorative cap while Kin Wilson, the nephew of Betty wilson received the cap for her as this popular cricketer passed away in 2010 at the age of 88.
Aamir Khan Quit India Comment
One of the biggest Bollywood star Amir Khan’s comment on rising intolerance and quitting India provoked an enraged backlash in November. This created a big debate among people while the ruling party BJP described this comment as a political conspiracy to insult India and urged Khan for leaving India. The Right Wing National part, Hindu Mahasabha also charged khan with disloyalty and asked him to go to Pakistan. Even some bollywood actors also joined them to attack Amir Khan.
Papers Related to Chota Rajan Missing
Gangster Chota Rajan has around more than 70 cases against him but unfortunately 10 important papers related to those cases are missing, the Mumbai police have reported. Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, the full name of chota rajan has various cases against him such as murder, attempt to murder and extortion. The first case was registered long back in 1978 at Tilak Nagar.
Though some of the missing dossier was prepared but Crime branch and police officers reported that they are still on the search for some important papers. The case was supposed to hand over to the CBI but it also requires the papers to be handed over to them for that. This incident has raised a big question about security. However it is to see now if the papers are found finally.
Indian Prime Minister Meets SriLankan President
Srilankan President Maithripala Sirisena and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met each other in February where an agreement on trade and civil nuclear co-operation was signed by the two sides. The Times of India reported that Sri Lanka was looking for a more neutral approach in foreign policy and especially a deeper economic bond with India. So, it is no doubt a good opportunity to have Indian investment on Sri Lanka as Mr. Modi also declared his intent of pursuing bilateral trade relations.
4 Suspects in ISI-Linked Sent to Police Custody
4 suspects have been arrested in ISI-linked espionage case in December and they are now in the police custody. Abdul Rasheed is one of the main suspects in this case who is also the head constable of Border Security Force. Apart from Rasheed, the other three suspects are Munawwar Ahmad Mir, former army personnel, Mohd Sabar, a teacher and Farid Ahmad, a constable in 17 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry division of the army.
All of them have been produced before court by the Delhi Police crime branch. Munnar and Sabar have been arrested in Jammu & Kashmir while Farid has been arrested from Darjeeling, West Bengal. All of them were supplying important information and documents through mail and this module was going on since 2013.
Bollywood Actor Irfan Khan Returns National Award
Irfan khan decided to return his national award to show his protest against PM Narendra Modi for not using the ‘Syska LED Bulb’ endorsed by him. It seems this has become a trend to show their protest by returning the award and Bollywood actor Irfan Khan too used this weapon. According to him, he had experienced intolerance against Syska LED bulb that he was endorsing. PM Narendra Modi urged people to use LED bulb but he hardly mentioned the name of this actor and the brand. He also added that if this is treatment with a mainstream actor like him then what will be the treatment towards the common people. He is really worried for the future of the country.
Salman Khan Clears the Hit and Run Case
The high court in Mumbai has overturned the convict of 2002 hit and run case Salman Khan, one of the biggest Bollywood star. The case started 13 years back and he was convicted for culpable homicide for rush driving and killing a man who was sleeping on a pavement. The court sentenced him 5 years jail for that. But there were not sufficient evidence for that. During the trail in the lower court the judge said that it is Salman Khan who was driving the car even though Salman Khan argued that it was not him but the driver who was driving car on that night. However the latest verdict brought an excellent twist where the judge said that the evidence including the testimony was not reliable enough.
13 November Paris Attack
The Paris attack on 13 November by the Islamic militants (ISIS) has shivered not only Paris rather the whole world has been shaken by this. Various points of Paris such as stadium, bar and restaurant were attacked on that night by suicide bombers and gunmen who killed around 130 people with leaving more than hundreds wounded. President Francois Hollande described this incident as an act of war that was conducted by three coordinated teams of ISIS. Hundreds of raids took place in various major cities across the countries while the search for the suspects kept going on. Finally few days later the mastermind of this attack was killed who was residing in a flat in Paris.
