Outer beauty, good looks and physical appearance are always met with admiring eyes, and there is no denying the fact that be it a little baby, or a veteran, everyone is attracted towards people who look pretty. Beauty is a wonderful thing and this is how most love stories start.
“Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the prettiest of them all?” The undue pressure on fairytale heroines to look their squeaky best, even in perils and mortal dangers, television ladies all slim and slender, models posing with their wonderful frames, and movie stars all glossy and perfect; is leading us ‘commoners’ to a fictitious sense of being beautiful.

Good Looks Rules In This Materialistic World
Outer beauty and makeovers are very important because in today’s materialistic world, when people look at you, they take you by your appearance ― Ami Patel
We love film actors and we enjoy watching them because of their good looks. Beauty contests also focus on the physical beauty of contestants. In real life too, whether it is looking for a love match or looking for a good job, if you look shabby and lethargic, the chances are very less that you are going to get through.
In fact there are certain job sectors such as sales girls, flight attendants or front office jobs where people actually get selected or rejected on the basis of their looks and appearance. When you enter a hotel lobby or board a flight, you expect a beautiful lady or charming young man greeting you. When you see two guys walking up to you, you will naturally become attracted to better looking one. Even in our daily lives, good looks and appearances help us to achieve certain things very easily.
People even tend to relate beauty with status. This is not trend but has come down to us by tradition. Myth, history, and legend provide evidence of ancient women who held their positions because of their outer appearances. It’s simple. When you gain wealth, you start spending money on a number of spa and beauty treatments in an effort to look better. Because we all know that it only adds value to your social status. Looks is very important, it is what we see on the person first rather than on his attitude or personality.
Outer Beauty Is What We Love To See First
We humans are programmed to like what is pleasing to the eyes. Unconsciously so, we tend to become part of group or have friends in our circle who look good and beautiful. Even most parents wish to have good looking children.
This throws a light on how materialistic and shallow we are, when we claim to be all righteous and balanced! Have you noticed how people would rather like to wear clothes that accentuate their body structures, rather than actually making the effort to lose weight and become shapely?
Boys think girls are like books, if the cover doesn’t catch their eye they won’t bother to read what’s inside ― Marilyn Monroe
The world is consciously shifting towards beauty over substance and this can be seen everywhere. Bare chested men and bikini clad girls are being used to advertise almost everything. The whole world has been engulfed by this ‘appearance game’ and it is not just restricted to people but also places and surroundings. The very development of the expensive ‘mall culture’, splendid showrooms and theme parks has been due to people’s need for eye candy. Schools and colleges are spending more on equipments and labs but not improving teaching methods or hiring better teachers, which is most required. Is that what we want? “Absolutely No”, you would say. But when these things are fed to our eyes, we lose control and somewhere in our mind, it echoes, “Yes! We want to see more”. Believe it or not, our eyes are very quick at decision making. They automatically make choices for us before we start running our logic.
So How Important Are Good Looks
We should not give importance to appearance and this is wrong to have attraction towards physical beauty… this is morally bad to benefit from our good personality! No! that’s not what I am trying to conclude. The truth is good things inspire us to live better. Beautiful dreams – we want to see them in our sleep and they take our lives forward. Striking the healthy balance however, is very important.
Beauty is only skin deep. If you go after someone just because she’s beautiful but don’t have anything to talk about, it’s going to get boring fast. You want to look beyond the surface and see if you can have fun or if you have anything in common with this person.
― As quoted by Amanda Peet.
No matter how talented and how virtually sound a person is, the first look and the first impression are what lead to most decisions in life and you just cannot afford to miss these chances if you wish to reach places in life. This is what makes it important for you to groom your personality and looks in such a way that thy work to your advantage. Now I am not asking you to become all materialistic and run after costly beauty treatments and cosmetic surgeries to change your entire appearance. Presenting yourself in a nice way is actually doing a favour to your own self; it’s like a gesture of loving yourself. When you make a little bit of effort to look good, you will start feeling happier and want to live a little more each day. Let’s face it, no-one hates looking good and putting a little effort into it will not only make you love each day.
To Be Yourself Is To Be Beautiful
You have to be a real person. Your fans and the people you associate with have to be able to see beyond your looks. You have to be a good friend, dutiful son and a good family man.
― Arjun Rampal
Being honest and being oneself are the most beautiful things. One must never stop doing beautiful things – for family, others and oneself. We should dream about growth in career, success in life and to be with our loved ones. A person’s true value is after all measured only through the sort of lives they lead, the sort of deeds they do and the sort of qualities they have.
Inner Beauty Is Forever
Life will take its toll on all of us. We get injured, we get old … looks are not everything. I am not going to look beautiful all the time.
― Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Nobody stays impeccable forever. No matter how indispensable your drop-dead gorgeous good looks are, beauty is but short lived. Beautiful thoughts, we carry in our minds and beautiful feelings, we carry in our hearts are going to stay with us as long as we live. So even when you have retired from work and live life like a wrinkled old pensioner, you know you are more than the pretty face you used to be, you know that what you have can never be taken away from you, and that is your true asset… that is your true beauty.
Most men are very mean to ugly girls but if the ugly girl has their ideal inner world then she is the woman of their dreams. Looks are not that important when it comes to having a sweet and happy life… and this is how most love stories end.
